It was tight games when the first semi final in Sweden was played. Luleå won 4-3 away to Skellefteå after overtime (boxscore). In the other game Färjestad won against the surprise team AIK, AIK's first loss of the playoff (boxscore).

HC Lugano announces the sign of 59 years old American Berry Smith as new coach for next two seasons.
Smith worked in NHL for Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes winning 5 Stanley Cup: in 1991 and 1992 with Pittsburgh, in 1997, 1998 and 2002 with Detroit Red Wings. From 1997 to 2010 he was head coach of SKA st. Petersburgh in KHL and last season worked in Chicago Blackhawks as scout.

Jokerit's head coach Erkka Westerlund is suspended from the 4th SM-Liiga Quarter Final against HIFK and maybe also more games after an incident in the third game. After HIFK's late 2-1 goal he threw a bottle at the referee and received a match penalty.

Brampton Battalion 17 years old Czech goalie Matej Machovsky was awarded with F.W. "Dinty" Moore Trophy as the rookie goalie with the Best Goals-Against-Average.
Machovsky - eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft - led all rookie goaltenders with a goals-against-average of 2.90 which ranked as the seventh best mark in the entire OHL. Last season another Czech goalie, Petr Mrazek from Ottawa 67's, captured the trophy

Executive Director of the Espoo Blues Marcus Lindstrom said to Finnish TV MTVv3 he is "surprised" by the statement KHL president Alexander Medvedev, that his club in the next season will play in the KHL. "We are now focused in the playoffs, we never discussed about it"
General Manager Jussi Salonoya was more determined: "Next season we will play in Finland. The club will invest a lot of money to be competitive in SM-Liiga"

President of KHL Alexander Medvedev announced that in the case of HC Lev Poprad it is almost sure now, that the club will be one of the KHL clubs for the next season: "It's certain for 99%," Medvedev told.
He also figured out, that an interest from two other clubs is the topic of the day: A Finnish club Espoo Blues and an Italian team Milan are in the game for the KHL tickets. As Medvedev stated, from the season 2012/13 it is possible for a start of other clubs, especially Slovan Bratislava(SVK), Yunost Minsk(BLR) and Sokil Kyiv(UKR). A German gutter-press Bild is also speculating about a possible start of a club from Leipzig.

In the Austrian championship KAC Klagenfurt and Red Bulls Salzburg both have 2-1 leads in the best of seven semi final. In the third game KAC won 2-1 against Villach and Red Bulls defeated Vienna Capitals with the same numbers, but after overtime.
