Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod secured a commanding 10-1 victory over Barys in a lopsided KHL regular-season matchup in Astana. The visitors dominated the game from start to finish, handing Barys one of their most difficult nights of the season.
Barys had a promising start, earning two early power plays but failed to capitalize. Torpedo, on the other hand, made no mistake when given their opportunity. Dmitry Kagarlitsky opened the scoring for Torpedo on the power play with a sharp shot from the left circle, marking his 500th KHL point. Torpedo extended their lead midway through the first period when Nikita Artamonov found the net off a slick pass from Vladislav Firstov to make it 2-0.
Barys managed to pull one back through Anton Burdasov, who redirected a pass from Michael McLeod, making it 2-1 late in the first period. However, that was as close as the home side would get, as Torpedo unleashed a flurry of goals in the second period.
Mikhail Orlov's point shot deflected off a Barys defender to make it 3-1, and within moments, Torpedo struck twice more. Mikhail Abramov finished a beautifully crafted 4-on-4 play to stretch the lead to 4-1, and shortly after, Bobby Lynch capitalized on a turnover to make it 5-1, forcing a goaltender change for Barys.
Backup goalie Johan Mattsson lasted less than a minute before Nikita Shavin beat him with a one-timer from the right circle. Torpedo then added insult to injury as Denis Pochivalov scored while shorthanded, sending the game into the second intermission with a staggering 7-1 lead.
The third period saw no respite for Barys, as Torpedo continued their onslaught. Sergei Goncharuk scored on a 5-on-3 power play, and both Firstov and Evgeny Svechnikov added goals to close out the scoring at 10-1.
With this win, Torpedo recorded their fourth consecutive victory and set a new team record for most goals in a single KHL game.
