Game recap

Belfast Giants scored in each period to record a 5-1 victory over Glasgow Clan at the SSE Arena on Sunday afternoon.

“I thought today, from the drop of the puck, the guys came out and really executed our game plan to a tee,” said winning goalie Tom McCollum. “We did a great job on putting a lot of pressure on them in the offensive zone, and in our own end the guys did a great not really giving them a ton of high quality chances, and that's pretty impressive.”

It was the Giants who opened the scoring as a powerful shot from Grant Mismash was saved by the shoulder of Landon Bow. However, the rebound went in off the head of Karl Boudrais to give the Giants the lead at 6:35.

Scott Conway doubled the Giants' lead at 14:44, picking up the puck in the neutral zone and leading his side on a 3-on-0. Conway opted to shoot himself and beat Bow to make it 2-0 with 14:44 played.

The Giants further extended their lead at 36:09. The puck was fired to the back post by Bobo Carpenter, and Grant Mismash was there to force it over the line to give the Giants a three-goal cushion.

Mike Pelech brought Clan back to within two at 50:43, breaking McCollum’s shutout.

“We knew it was coming because that's a team that has no quit in them,” said McCollum. They're going to compete for the full 60. For me really, it's just taking shot by shot, that's all I really try to worry about.”

Goals from Carpenter and JJ Piccinich inside the final six minutes saw the hosts comfortably through to a perfect week.
