Dundee Stars capped a bad week for Fife Flyers, inflicting the Kirkcaldy-based side's third defeat in five days with an 8-3 win to keep themselves tied in seventh place.
"I think we started slowly, but found a way to get the first goal and then got a couple quickly after that, so I thought it was a decent effort from us," said Stars' Philippe Sanche after the game. "We capitalised on our chances and it was a good result in the end."
A five-goal opening period did the damage for the Stars at Fife Ice Arena. Philippe Sanche beat Janis Voris five-hole in the slot with 7:28 played, starting a rush of goals in just over seven minutes. Kameron Kielly slotted home a Domenico Alberga pass at 8:04 to make it two, while Spencer Naas one-timed a Drydn Dow pass into Voris' net at 13:13 to make it 3-0. Sanche made it four 50 seconds later, before Kielly was left all alone to dangle in front of Voris and finish just 36 seconds thereafter.
"I've had some good chances that I haven't taken in the last few games so it felt good to get a couple tonight," added Sanche, who ended with two goals, "We've been o na good stretch for points, we need points every weekend as the standings are very tight. Hopefully we've started a new streak now."
Lucas Chiodo got the Flyers' only goal of the period, although a 2-on-1 involving Austin Farley and Masismo Carozza could have got them on the board before the 18-minute mark.
Shane Owen took over duties in the Flyers' net for period two onwards, but kept the visitors out for the middle 20 minutes. Ryan Foss scored the only goal of the period off a good pass from Chiodo to the top of the crease.
Owen's resistance was finally broken 5:38 into period three as Harms got on a rebound from a Ben O'Connor shot. Patrick Kyte responded for the home side just under a minute later, but two quick goals from Zach Tsekos and Drydn Dow put eight on the board for the Stars in what was a comfortable win.
