Game recap

Fife Flyers secured a huge win in the basement battle on the road to Manchester Storm, coming away with a three-goal shutout victory.

The opening 40 minutes were tight and nervy with both teams well aware of the need not to lose or drop points. Manchester had some decent attacking zone time in the first but neither side generated any clear-cut opportunities.

Period two, which included some penalties, was a little more open. Eric Naslund had one of the Flyers' better opportunities and forced Jason Bacashihua into a good save with his effort from the slot.

The deadlock was finally broken inside the final ten seconds of period two. Chris Lawrence threw the puck on net and it seemed to deflect in front of Bacashihua through a gap to make it 1-0 at 39:57.

The Flyers doubled their lead inside the final seven minutes with a well-worked powerplay goal which saw Matt Carter flick the puck to Jacob Benson to finish at the back post.

As Storm pressed for a way back into the game, Chris Lawrence profited from a turnover and skated down the ice to beat Bacashihua to make it 3-0 and secure the points for Fife.
