Game recap

Belfast Giants took first blood in the teams' double header weekend but gave up a 3-0 lead on the way to their breaking their four-game losing streak.

The Devils were made to rue a missed poweprplay chance inside the opening minute as, with Sam Jardine in the box, the Giants needed only 30 seconds of their man advantage to take the lead through Brian Ward at 6:47. Then, just over a minute later, Masi Marjamaki was ejected for Slew-Footing, the Giants scored a second at 11:57 through Jordan Smotherman through traffic. The visitors made it 3-0 with another goal scored on a man advantage from Mark Garside at 28:30 to put them well in control.

However, the Devils' rallied in the final period and turned the momentum in the game thanks to two goals in 12 seconds. Gleason Founrier for the first, with Blair Riley then scoring at 49:36 to suddenly have the Devils back to within one. Charles Linglet's fine effort tied the scores at 54:53 and with no further scoring in regulation both sides took a point.

In overtime as Cardiff pressed they were caught out by an odd-man rush the other way - Bobby Farnham through on Ben Bowns and slotting home to take the extra point 3:05 into OT.
