Game recap

Cardiff made use of Belfast’s slip-up in Manchester on Friday night with a home win over the Storm themselves.

The opening period saw no goals as the Devils had the better start, with the Storm coming well into the game after the opening ten minutes.

Layne Ulmer was the man to eventually open the scoring, his goal from close range on the powerplay at 22:18 was given on the ice, then reviewed to make sure. The Devils then doubled their advantage just under three minutes later as Gleason Fouriner’s casual shot from the point beat everyone and ended up in the back of Matt Ginn’s net at 25:07. Much like in the first period, after the opening ten minutes or so of the second the Storm found their feet in the game more, and were unlucky not to get their opening goal – Ciaran Long with one of the better chances as Ben Bowns was unsure where the puck was in his crease.

Charles Linglet’s wrap-around made it 3-0 to the home side at 46:40, before Stephen Dixon’s one-timer added some gloss to the final scoreline with 3:30 to play.

The win marked Bowns’ fourth straight shutout at the Viola Arena, while the Devils could win the league tomorrow if they win in Dundee and Belfast take no points from their home game against Sheffield.
