Davos wins its last NLA game before Spengler Cup

Although both teams had won in the last NLA round the favourites for this match were clear as the guests from Biel had lost all their last ten away games in Davos. Yet there was reason to hope for Biel when Adrien Lauper brought his colours in front with 2:27 on the clock. After Davos lost the puck in its own defending zone everything went very fast and Philipp Wetzel's pass found team mate Lauper he scored with a well-placed shot. Despite the early goal there was not much time for the away team to enjoy the goal as Davos tied the game just 32 seconds later. 17-year old Lukas Sieber tried it from a tight angle and the rebound was sent over the goal line by Czech Josef Marha. In the following time both teams had big chances and the goalies could excel. Away goalie Reto Berra also was a bit lucky as three shots in this game only hit the goal post. After the middle of the game both teams had some additional time to recover when a pane of glass broke after a check. In a fast counter-attack it was again youngster Sieber who made an assist - this time for only two years older Raphael Kuonen who turned the game around. This time hitting the goal post brought Davos more luck as the rebound fell on the stick of Kuonen and from there into the wide open goal. The decision came early in the third period when Reto Von Arx scored after another counter-attack, this time shorthanded. For Davos it was already their eighth goal shorthanded which let them become first in this category in the NLA. But not only there as Davos was able to conquer the first spot of the league table with now 66 points after 35 games. A lead they are likely to lose today when a total of four teams can pass them.
