Key win for HIFK

HIFK Helsinki beat Tappara 3-2 in today's only game of the European Trophy to move up to a second place in the close North Division.

After the 3-2 win against Tappara HIFK is now second in the North Division of the European Trophy. Jokerit leads with 15 points. Then follow HIFK and Djurgården with 13. Luleå has 11 points and has still a chance to reach the second place that possibly is enough for a place in the Red Bulls salute.

Teemu Tallberg and Turo Järvinen scored in the second period to take HIFK to 1-0 and 2-1 leads but both times Tappara replied quickly. Mikael Granlund's short-handed goal with only 36 seconds remaining of the same period on the other hand remained unanswered and HIFK got the important win.

Tappara has only won 5 points in 8 games and is of course out of the race for the playoffs spots already.

14 games remain of the first stage. 7 on Saturday, 5 on Sunday and 2 on Tuesday.
