Czechs and Russians win on the opening day of Czech Hockey Games

Czech Republic defeated Finland without impressing. Juhamatti Aaltonen scored 1-0 for Finland on a break-away where Ondrej Pavelec in the Czech net saved the first shot but Aaltonen scored on the rebound. Tomas Rolinek tied it for Czech Republic assisted by Jakub Voracek when finland played sloppy in the defense. Roman Cervenka scored the winner with a weak shot that Finnish netminder Petri Vehanen should have saved.

"A solid effort from us. I am happy otherwise, but we should have shot more," says Finnish Head Coach Jukka Jalonen.

Russia beat 4-2 Sweden in Malmö. Vitaly Atyushov scored the winning goal at 46:43 on a power-play. Alexai Morozov added an empty-netter in the last minute. Russia had a 2-0 lead after the first period but Sweden came back and tied it in the second. In the third it was Russia's turn again to score twice.
