Josef Vítek writes history
36-year-old Czech has become the most prolific foreign player in Polish hockey
Despite the deafeat of his team MH Automatyka Gdansk against Polonia Bytom, November 26 will be a date to remember for Josef Vitek: the goal scored in Bytom is the 250th of his career in Poland, making him the most prolific foreign player ever in Polish hockey.
Arrived in Poland in 2007-2008 season, Vitek defended the colours of Stoczniowiec Gdańsk for three seasons scoring 71 goals, before to move to Ciarko Sanok (2 seasons, 50 goals) and GKS Tychy (five seasons, 120 goals), coming back this year to ambitious MH Automatyka Gdańsk, where he scored 10 goals so far.
He won two titles (with Sanok and Tychy), three Polish Cups (two with Tychy, one with Sanok), losing four finals, all with Tychy. In 2010-2011 was selected for Poland All-Star Game
"I did not follow statistics so much and did not keep an eye on the number of goals scored, but of course I'm happy to have reached this goal" said Vitek to portal
hokej.net."It's hard for me to choose a special goal to remember: there were so many of them in so many important matches. Besides, I have always been a team player rather than looking at my individual achievements. " said Vitek
