IIHF want names of Russian players involved in doping scandal
IIHF President Rene Fasel promised athletes will be punished
According to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) report about the alleged use of doping by Russia that caused the suspension of many athletes from Rio Olympics, also 14 hockey players had their doping test adulterate during the course of the ice hockey tournament at last Olympics in Sochi in 2014.
Last May,
Grigori Rodchenkov, the former
chief of anti-doping laboratory in Sochi, now a collaborator of WADA after he left Russia fearing for their safety, said to New York Times that, among dozens of Russian athletes, "The entire women’s hockey team was doping throughout the Games", an accusation commented by Russia’s sports minister, Vitaly Mutko at TASS Agency as “a continuation of the information attack on Russian sport.” “The system of organization of the Olympic Games was completely transparent,” said Minister “Everything was under the control of international experts — from the collection of samples to their analysis.”
While IIHF didn't react officially after Rodchenkov revelations, now President Rene Fasel, questioned about the attitude of International Federation about the 14 cases confirmed by WADA, confirmed IIHF will request the names: "This is for sure. We will do it…, at least if we find out they tested positive we will of course suspend them," Fasel said in an interview with TASS.
