EIHL signing news
Tuesday morning saw rosters updated by two EIHL teams, league champions Sheffield Steelers and conference champions Braehead Clan.
Anders Frentzon, an American defenceman was the first to be
named. Recommended by two former players Frentzon was added to the Sheffield
blueline. He is a stay at home player who last year played for Indy Fuel in the
ECHL. He was there for two seasons after being traded from Missouri Mavericks
in the Central Hockey League (CHL).
He played as a junior in Sweden
and then spent four seasons with the University
of Vermont in the U.S.
After that he decided to turn pro in 2013. He was at Indy for two seasons after
being traded from Missouri Mavericks in the Central Hockey League (CHL).
I’m very pleased with this addition” said
coach Paul Thompson “we have improved on our size on the back end whilst
maintaining our mobility with Anders signing
“His size and mobility
is what attracted us towards him. I watched a lot of video and instantly
thought he would be an ideal fit.
“He see’s the ice
well, good vision and a good first pass. I like his decision making. He is also
a right hand shot, something I wanted to add to the group of six on the blue
line”.
The second signing of the day was that of Callum Boyd. He
spent the last two seasons with Edinburgh Capitals after stepping up from the
Scottish National League (SNL) when he played for Kilmarnock Storm.
Coach Ryan Finnerty said: “We saw a lot of Callum with Edinburgh in the last couple of years
and I loved his energy. Richard Hartmann was always talking positively
about him and said he’s very coachable.
“I think he brings that energy and has a robust style, which we
need in the fourth line. He’ll play with some good players as well.
“The kid’s got skill and a lot of it comes from hard work and he
was a pain to play against and played to the last second in a tough situation
in Edinburgh. We had
the opportunity to sign him two years ago before he signed for Edinburgh, however his
move to the Capitals has allowed him to gain the valuable ice time and showcase
his talent.”
