First round to Färjestad
05 Apr 2011 | Fredrik Pålsson
Färjestad was in control from start to finish in the first final in Sweden and won 5-4.
18-5 in shots and 3-0 in goals, Färjestad took control from the start and made 1-0 already at 1:10 when Pelle Prestberg picked up a bad pass by Skellefteå's Yared Hagos and made no mistake on the chance. 2-0 came when Martin Sevc took a shot from the blueline on a power play. A mistake by Hadelöv as he dropped the puck when he tried to stop the puck with his glove hand. Less then two minutes later Per Åslund easily made it 3-0 from close range.
The second period was more even, Skellefteå came out better and managed to get one goal back when Fredrik Lindgren's shot found the net. The third period was also even but when Färjestad made 4-1 on a power play at 11:46 it felt like the game was over. But Skellefteå didn't gave up and made 4-2 also on a power play.
Skellefteå tried to come back and pulled their goalie but a mistake by David Rundblad gave Färjestad free room to score 5-2 with 1:43 left. But Skellefteå managed to score two goals in the last minute but was never close to tie the game.
"We gave them too much room and need to get closer to them in next game", Skellefteå's coach Anders Forsberg said after the game. His team has a chance to revenge on home ice on Thursday.
