Canada needs a shootout to beat Switzerland while Russia beats Belarus as expected.
After losing big to Sweden and then losing the key game against Denmark it seemed like all hope were out for the Swiss team. But then they stepped and made they by far best game so far and took their first ever point against Canada. But it could have been even more. The Swiss got a dream start and had 1-0 already at 2:12 (Damien Riat deflected a shot on power play) and at 15:37 they were 2-0 up when a shot from Marco Forrer deflected off Dario Meyer.
But Canada got an important goal with only 24 seconds left of the period when Dylan Strome found the net. In the second period Canada tied the game by Joe Hicketts who scored with a high shot and at that point most people probably was thinking that Canada would turn the game around. But the Swiss did very well and took the game to overtime and a shootout but there Canada was best and goals from Barzal and Point gave Canada the two points.
In the other game today Russia won comfortable against Belarus. Three goal in the second half of the first period (Lazarev, Polunin and Kamenev) gave them a 3-0 lead that they never lost. Patsenkin got one back for Belarus but Polunin quickly added his second goal of the game to make the lead three again and 4-1 was the final score.
