Växjö Lakers to Elitserien

Almost everyone expected MoDo and Södertälje to defend their part in next season's edition of Elitserien in Kvalserien (the qualification round to Elitserien). But after eight of ten games in the six team league it's already a fact that Växjö Lakers is promoted to Elitserien for the first time ever. Today the team won 5-2 away to Örebro despite being outshot 37-17. Four goals within nine minutes in the second period were the key to the historic victory.

Växjö who won Sweden's second league Allsvenskan is till unbeaten during regular time after eight rounds, a brilliant performance by the team that had to rebuild after losing some of their key players after last season. And with a good mix of Swedish players and imports they have done it. Goalie Oscar Ahlsenfeldt has been very good in Kvalserien with a save % on 95,56 %.

With Växjö promoted it is also clear that either MoDo or Södertälje, or both of them, will be relegated. MoDo and Södertälje both have 14 points, one ahead of Rögle. MoDo and Södertälje will play each other in the last round, that game will probably decide it all.
