Storhamar looking for CHL form
This year’s still young CHL season saw one huge surprise, the Storhamar Dragons. But their day to day business in the Norwegian GET-Ligaen does not look too bright in the early stages.
The season
for Hamar did not start too good. In their opening night they hosted Valerenga
Oslo at the Hamar OL-Amfi rink and the team that defeated Sparta Prague once
and Servette Geneva twice in the CHL even failed to score a single goal. Oslo
could grab all 3 points through a pair of 3rd period goals by Jonas
Oppoyen and Filip Gunnarsson.
Four days
later though, travelling to their local rivals from Lillehammer, they could put
on a show and show why they kept writing headlines in Europe this summer. With
10-1 they blasted their opponents away. Alexander Reichenberg, Mikael
Zettergren and Scott Hotham managed to score twice, while Hampus Gustafsson
added 4 assists. From here they could have taken the season by storm, but
another bump was waiting for them on the road.
In
Lorenskog the Dragons could gain momentum with an early lead through Hampus
Gustafsson, but Lorenskog fought back in the second and third period. Robin
Dahlstrom, Joacim Sundelius and Stefan Espeland turned the game around for the
home team. Martin Ronnild managed to bring Storhamar back within reach again,
but they came up short in the end.
Those three
games left Storhamar with only 3 points out of 3 games, which is definitely not
enough. The other CHL team could meanwhile celebrate 3 wins in as many games.
Besides victories in Asker (4-3 OT) and Manglerud (7-1), the Stavanger Oilers
also entertained their home crowd with a double digit win beating Sparta
Sarpsborg 10-2. The most successful scorer for Stavanger so far has been Josh
Soares with 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists), who also leads the league. The
Oilers will try to match that as they are hosting Lillehammer in their next
game, while Hamar will try to bounce back at home against Stjernen, a team
currently in 5th place with 2 wins and a loss.
