Team USA so far has won all three games in the tournament and the public started speculating about their chances to get the Cup. But after a two-days long pause, Americans did not get to the tempo and lost to Belarus.
In Czech language there is a saying: "You walk so long with a jar for water, until the handle breaks off." Exactly this experienced USA in the game against Belarus. Eventhough Americans prepared several scoring opportunities during the first half, they used none.
And then, something surprising happened. Like if they used ctrl+c / ctrl+v, Belarus players Artur Gavrus, Artyom Volkov, and Alexander Kitarov shot three similar goals after breakaway from the right-wing. All of them in time of five minutes. One of Belarussian fans in the stands called it "kind of unusual."
But Americans recovered very quickly. Just 85 seconds later, Jack Eichel offered Brock Nelson a chance to shoot on uncovered net which Nelson used to make it 3-1 after forty minutes of play.
However comeback on the ice showed to be unfavorable for the Stars and Stripes again. Alexei Kalyuzhny used a five-on-three powerplay just 1:15 after the opening faceoff of the third session.
In a much less pleasant position appeared Kalyuzhny three minutes later, sitting on the penalty bench for hookin and watching how Torey Krug got his club on touch at 4-2. Like if he felt guilty, he used his next shift on the ice, to score one more - from a breakaway and closed the score at 5-2.
This is the first loss at the tournament for USA and also historically the first loss to Belarus ever. Belarus takes the opportunity, and while beating America steals the leading position in Group B.
