Växjö Lakers won the first game of the Swedish SHL finals away to Skellefteå. Rhett Rakhshani got both goals for the visitors.
For Växjö it was the first final game ever and it couldn't have ended better. Skellefteå had 17 consecutive home wins in the playoffs but this time they suffered a loss.
All goals were scored in the first period. Rhett Rakhshani picked up the puck after a shot by Niclas Lundgren to make it 0-1 in the sixth minute. Skellefteå replied four minutes later when Janne Pesonen beat Cristopher Nihlstorp. Rakhshani's second goal was a deflection of a shot by Noah Welch.
With disciplined defence and great goaltending by Nihstorp Växjö could get the important away win in the first game of the final series.
"It was important", says Rakhshani to TV4. "We were aggressive and it payed off."
