One of the greatest Latvian hockey players, Aleksandrs Nizivijs retires at the age of 37 and becomes assistant coach of Dinamo Riga
Playing 227 games for Team Latvia, including 16 World Championship tournaments (14 at top level) and three Olympic games the Latvian forward Aleksandrs Nizivijs must be considered one of Latvia's greatest hockey players. But now his career is over but he will remain in hockey as assistant coach for Dinamo Riga where he played the last six seasons.
After starting his career in Riga he played six seasons in Russia with Yaroslavl. After that he had one season each in Dinamo Moscow, Perm, HK Riga 2000 and Björklöven before going to Russia again playing three years with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. After that he went home to Riga and remained there for the rest of his career with the exception of a short stay with LEV Praha at the end of the 2012/2013 season.
