Russia beat Finland 5-2 in Minsk Arena to win the 2014 World Championship with a perfect record.
The stars stepped up and the powerplay was efficient when Russia won the gold medal game against Finland.
Four of the five Russian goals were scored with more men on the ice.
"We have to stay out of the penalty box. I thought we played well 5-on-5, but they took advantage of the power play. They are a good team. You give them enough power play chances and they are going to score," said the Finnish captain Olli Jokinen to IIHF.com.
Finland had a 2-1 lead in the second period but then the Russian superstars stepped up to turn the momentum. Alexander Ovechkin tied it at 27:34 and Yevgeny Malkin took Russia ahead at 35:36 at the end of a 2-man advantage.
Sergei Shirokov had opened the scoring in the middle of the first period. Then Finland got the equalizer just three seconds before the first intermission. Olli Palola took Finland ahead at 26:51 but they only managed to stay in the lead for 43 seconds before Ovechkin tied it.
Russia's Danis Zaripov and Viktor Tikhonov added a powerplay goal each in the third period and Russia won it 5-2.
The Finnish team was not happy with the referees Lars Brüggemann and Keith Kaval: "It felt a bit like we were playing against the referees as well. It is not enough that we played against the opponent. We constantly had two refs against us", says Jyri Marttinen.
The Russian players gave full support for their coach Olegs Znaroks who had to follow the game from the seats after an incident in the semifinal against Sweden.
"Our coach is very important," said Nikolai Kulyomin. "He has built a team, he's put everybody on the same page, and he finds the right words at the right time. He's done a good job."
