With the win over the USA, Russia takes a clear first spot in Group B while Canada jumps to first rank in Group A.

Russia was eager to continue their stride, beating the USA 6:1. Nikolai Kulyomin made the start in the 7th minute. Just with a minute left Alexander Ovechkin was awarded a penalty shot and capitalised after he was illegally stopped by Danny DeKeyser on a hooking call. Period 2 was only 20 seconds in when Viktor Tikhonov got the 3rd goal of the evening but only half a minute later Justin Abdelkader got on the scoreboard a first time for the States. Through halftime of the game it was Yevgeni Kuznetsov who got the puck passed Tim Thomas in goal. Things for Thomas just got worse when Sergei Plotnikov scored on the helpless goalie who was now replaced with 31 minutes played. David Leggio replaced the Florida Panthers goalie but couldn't stop Viktor Tikhonov scoring his second goal of the game in the last minute of the second period. With that, Russia had enough and played a goalless third period where the United States weren't able to get on the scoreboard another time. Russia now leads Group B with 9 points followed by USA with 6 points.

In the second game of the evening the Czech Republic faced Canada. It was Roman Cervenka who opened the score at 6 minutes in the first period. Only 4 minutes later Joel Ward tied the score.

Canada continued the scoring in the second period when Kyle Turris in the 24th minute got passed Jakub Kovar. In the 37th minute it was Nathan Mackinnon on the 5 minute penalty against Jan Kovar who scored first and just 17 seconds later Morgan Rielly scored the 4th goal. The Czech Republic tried to turn the game as the last period got started, Jiri Novotny scored the 2nd goal for the Czechs with 3 minutes played and only 49 seconds later Tomas Hertl scored on the powerplay. The Czechs effort wasn't enough and so the Canadians left the ice as the winners. Canada now leads the board with 7 points, followed by Norway with 6.
