Finnish Liiga threatens CHL exit over unsustainable format

Russias second win meant Finlands second loss of the tournament, giving the East Europeans the lead in Group B.
Viktor Tikhonovs opening goal just 2 minutes into the game meant a
perfect start into a game that should prove that Russia is ready and
had left the olympic disappointment behind. Another reason also was that
Finland acted clumsy, giving Russia a two-man advantage in the 4th
minute where it took NHL star Alexander Ovechkin little less than a minute to
score on goalie Mikko Koskinen. Juuso Hietanens goal at the midst of
the first period on a one-man advantage left the Fins with a chance to
keep up with the high pacing Russians. But just three minutes into
period two Finland had a powerplay opportunity, Nikolai Kulyomin had other
plans though, scoring a shorthanded goal. Sergei Kalinin then scored
the 4th goal of the evening at 35 minutes deciding the game and giving
the Fins the 2nd loss at the World Championships. Jere Karalahti's goal
on a powerplay in the last minute of the second period was just a bit of
make-up on a substandard performance as no more goals were recorded in the final period.
