SHL expands to 14 teams

From season 2015/2016 the Swedish top league will consist of 14 teams instead of the current 12.

 
 
 
 

SHL announced today that the leagiue will consist of 14 teams from 2015/16. The ongoing qualification for next season won't be affected the two top teams of this year's Kvalserien will play in SHL 2014/15.

At the end on next season the two best placed teams of the second level league HockeyAllsvenskan will play best-of-5 series for one of the new spots. The loser along will three other teams from HockeyAllsvenskan and the last two teams of SHL will play for the remaining three spots.

"We've had incredibly good discussions with HockeyAllsvenskan, and now we have a concept regarding the qualification, says SHL's CEO Jörgen Lindgren SVT Sport."
