The top four teams in the league stayed the same. This is despite Metallurg Magnitogorsk currently
having the best record in the Eastern Conference. Metallurg actually dropped a spot in the
rankings, suggesting they are mostly beating bad teams, or teams they beat at
the beginning of the season are not doing so well now.
The big movers up are KHL Medvescak Zagreb into the fifth
spot and Donbass Donetsk into the seventh spot (both teams moved up two places). The big dropper was Torpedo Novgorod, down
three spots. However, Torpedo is still
ranked number nine overall in the rankings and fifth in the Eastern Conference. They likely will make the playoffs, but it
appears they will not be much of a threat to take the Gagarin Cup.
Other interesting notes include Spartak Moscow moving up one
spot although they have had a huge losing streak and Slovan not moving at all
while they have been winning. This means
the rankings are actually working!
Spartak was not as good as advertised when they were near a Western Conference
playoff spot and Slovan was not as bad as it seemed when they were dwelling at
the bottom of the league. It appears the
formula picked that up, but the actual standings were not reflecting this at
the time. Atlant it appears will not
likely get into the playoffs based on their drop in the rankings, unless they
have a soft schedule ahead of them.
Admiral Vladivostok has a good shot, sitting in the 15th spot
and just one point below Traktor Chelyabinsk for the final spot in the Eastern
Conference.

with the playoffs just around the corner!
