The leagues bottom two teams fought it out on Boxing Day to move closer to the rest of the pack, with Fife coming out on top by a big margin.
The Fife Flyers welcomed the Edinburgh Capitals to their barn for a festive meeting between the two Scottish sides, with one side dominating.
It took just over 10 minutes for the first goal to come, Tim Hartung netted first for Fife for his fourth of the year, before newboy Ned Lukacevic added a second on the powerplay just 4 minutes later.
The Capitals never looked likely to score a goal in the opening period, registering just three shots on Kevin Regans net compared to the 15 faced by Tomas Hiadlovsky in the Capitals net.
After 20 minutes of play, the Flyers had a 2 - 0 lead and looked likely to add to it.
Edinburgh had a better showing in the second but no goals to reward their 12 shots, but Fife continued to press on.
Midway through the period, Kyle Horne was shown to the box on an interference call but Fife were able to pounce. Derek Roehl added the Flyers third of the game at 28.01 despite being a man down, then later in the period he assisted on Stephen Gunn's fifth of the year giving Fife a 4 goal lead going into the final frame.
Edinburgh finally got a goal on the board early in the third period, Tomas Horna netted his 11th goal of the year just 2.29 into the final 20 minutes, with Curtis Leinweber picking up an assist improving on his team league points total, now at 34 in 25 games.
Fife however came to crash the party, just over 2 minutes later Matt Reber became the fifth Fife skater to score and the final one as Fife took a 5 - 1 victory, moving closer to the 8th place spot in the league and further from bottom occupied by the Capitals.
Edinburgh Man of the Match - Tomas Horna (1 goal)
Fife Man of the Match - Jordan Fulton (1 assist)
Fife will stay at home on Saturday as they welcome another Scottish team to the Fife Ice Arena, this time the third place Dundee Stars come to town while Edinburgh will stay on the road, heading south of the Scottish border to take on the Hull Stingrays who have won 3 of their last 5, including a massive 7 - 5 win over the Nottingham Panthers last weekend.
