After falling to the Finns yesterday, Russia suffer another loss in Sochi during the Channel One Cup, this time to the Czech Republic.
Zinetula Bilyaletdinov decided to give the edge to Alexander Yeryomenko and put him between the pipes today against the Czechs. Czech Republic were alone in the last place overall in the Euro Hockey Tour prior to today's clash, but still were able to pull off a win against the Russian Dream Team, 2:1.
There were no goals in the first two period of play before the last 20 minutes kicked off. First Alexander Radulov beat Alexander Salak to get the Russians on the board with only 18 seconds into the period. But the Czechs replied instantly through Tomas Nosek at 42:23.
Though, they continued the pressure on the Russians and at 44:08 racked up another one as Jiri Novotny beat Yeryomenko, which in end proved to be the game-winner.
Despite being heavily outshot, 32-19, the Czechs somehow pulled off a win and won the Channel One Cup with 8 points, two more than Finland in second place, meaning they left Sweden dead last in the overall standings.
The next stage of the Euro Hockey Tour is the Oddset Hockey Games taking place in Sweden from 1st to 4th of May, 2014.
