Technical difficulties lead to Riga fans singing their own National Anthem.
In Sunday's KHL match of Dinamo Riga at KHL Medveščak, there were technical difficulties with the audio for the Latvian National Anthem. The Latvian flag flashed briefly on the big screen at the beginning of the game, but the audio cut out after just a couple of notes. The crew did a great job of switching immediately to the Croatian National Anthem. However, they could not recover the Latvian audio by the end of the Croatian anthem. In the video below, you can hear the announcement from the emcee stating they are having difficulties. The travelling Latvian fans then perform an impromptu "a capella" version of the country's theme. They would receive a huge ovation from the fans in Zagreb, finish the song and the game would get underway.
Though the teams are conference rivals, the fans put aside the love for their clubs in deep respect. Riga would go on to beat Medveščak 5-1 to win their second straight game after having the worse record in the KHL year ago. Enjoy the video below.
