Surprising news from the league leaders of Elitserien. Head coach Anders Forsberg is sacked as he already has signed with a new club for next season.
Despite leading the league with seven points and being the main favourite to win the title in Sweden, Skellefteå AIK today announced that head coach Anders Forsberg has been released from the position with immediate effect. 44 year old Forsberg was on his third season as head coach for Skellefteå. Three sucessful years. But despite that Skellefteå didn't intend to give him an extension to his contract and when Forsberg told the club and players that he already found a new club for next season the board decided to let him go immediately.
"Looking at upcoming seasons we haven't seen a place for Anders Forsbergin the club. Anders chose on Thursday, before the game against Växjö, to inform the players that he has signed with a new club. Then we decided to set our new organisation now to create stability and the best possible conditions for the upcoming playoffs", Skellefteå's chairman Pär Nordlund told the club's web site.
Stefan Klockare, Bert Robertsson and Krister Holm will continue in the coaching staff and will also get help by Hans Wallson from who has been coaching the junior team.
The are no confirmed news about Forsberg's new club but rumours says that it is MODO.
