In the only KHL game on Sunday, Atlant Moscow Oblast made another big step towards the Gagarin Cup playoffs by defeating CSKA Moscow.
2011 Gagarin Cup finalists Atlant Moscow Oblast continued their impressiev run that might be just enough for a last-minute qualification for this year's edition of the playoffs in the KHL. Today they grabbed a 2-0 road win in the derby against CSKA Moscow. In an incredibly one-sided match Alexei Mikhnov brought outsiders Atlant in front only at 56:16. In the last minute of play hosts CSKA took a timeout and left goalie Rastislav Stana on the bench for an additional attacker but with 20 seconds left in regulation Konstantin Koltsov made everything clear for Atlant with his empty netter. The guests more or less gave a perfect example of what conversion of chances means as they only had 12 shots on goal. On the other side CSKA was stopped again and again by Atlant goalie Stanislav Galimov who made 35 saves for a shutout.
With their 5th win in the last 6 matches, Atlant positioned themselves just one point behind Donbass Donetsk who are 8th an thus on a playoff spot.
