Växjö beats Frölunda to get closer to a playoff spot

Växjö is now only four points from am Elitserien playoff spot after beating the main rival Frölunda 3-0. All four teams at the bottom of he standings earned points today.

 
 
 
 
Växjö is now only four points behind Frölunda in the important eighth place. Today's game between the two teams was won 3-0 by Växjö. Kristofer Berglund, Tomi Kallio and Dennis Rasmussen scored the goals. Fredrik Norrena in Växjö's net made 16 saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season. Växjö's defender Noah Welch got brutally checked by Fredrik Sjöström and was taken to the hospital.


AIK managed to win the shootout to bring two points from E.ON Arena where the home team Timrå was defeated 4-3. Oscar Steen scored two goals for AIK, including the late equalizer after a big mistake by Timrå's goalie Joakim Lundström. Björn Melin opened the shootout and was the only player that managed to score. This was the first win for AIK's new coach Anders Eldebrink.


Andreas Thuresson scored at only 14 seconds of the overtime when Brynäs beat Rögle 5-4. Juhamatti Aaltonen scored the opening goal for Rögle at 17:15 but Elias Lindholm tied it before the second period was over. Both teams scored in the 37th minute and Brynäs then scored twice early in the third period. Ted Brithén and Daniel Sondell replied for the visitors and the game had to be decided in the overtime.


Skellefteå beat Luleå 3-0. Viktor Arvidsson, who will play the World Juniors for Sweden, scored a goal and a pair of assists. Markus Svensson in the net made 18 saves.


Kyle Cumiskey got the winning goal when MODO beat Linköping in overtime. MODO had a 4-2 lead late in the game but Linköping got goals by Simon Hjalmarsson and Pär Arlbrandt to tie it at 58:51.
