05 Jul 2012 | Tyler Bilton

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has released the format and competitors for the 2013 European Women's Champions Cup (EWCC). For the last eight years, clubs that win their domestic league championships are invited to compete for title of European Champion.

The last three tournaments have not had a Swedish club due to the Swedish league champion Segeltorps IF inability to enter the competition for financial reasons. However, this season saw MODO defeat Brynäs IF 1-0 in the Riksserien Final and gladly accepted the IIHF's invite to compete in the EWCC.

Along with MODO, there will be 19 other clubs from competing in the round-robin tournament that has three rounds. The top four nations clubs pre-qualify for the second round with the rest competing in the first round.

Sweden has the most EWCC championships with AIK Stockholm winning four. Russia's Tornado Moscow Region won their second title last year and is the early favourite entering this years competition.
