National team weekend
Most of the major leagues in Europe take a break this weekend due to national team competitions. Finland will host Karjala Tournament, a part of Euro Hockey Tour. There will also be EIHC tournaments in Hungary, Belarus, Poland and Romania.
In the annual tournament of Karjala Finland will play Russia, Czech Republic and Sweden. This is a part of Euro Hockey Tour (EHT) where all four nations host one tournament. This year there will be no finals. The winner of the total standings of all four tournaments will be EHT Champion.
There are four tournaments of Euro Ice Hockey Challenge (EIHC) to be played this weekend as well.
The Euro Ice Hockey Challenge is a yearly series of national team hockey tournaments. During each of the four international breaks in September, November, December and February, tournaments are played in different locations. The Euro Ice Hockey Challenge was created in October 2001 as a structured system of challenge tournaments for national teams of top European associations. All teams use the competition as preparation for the World Championships or Olympics. The first tournaments of the Euro Ice Hockey Challenge took place during the 2002/2003 season.
In this season, the upcoming tournaments will be held in different time and in different locations. Between November 8 and 14 the supporters can follow exciting matches all around the continent. Hungary (against Japan, France and Austria), Belarus (against Denmark, Slovenia and Norway), Poland (against Russia B, Ukraine and the Netherlands) and Romania (against Croatia, Spain and Serbia) are going to be the battlefields for the players.
There are also a number of junior national tournaments to be played during this league break.
