The Czech U20 national team delivered a strong performance in Vierumäki, shutting out Switzerland 3-0 in an intense and at times heated contest.
The opening period saw both teams testing each other cautiously. Switzerland got a brief 5-on-3 power play-but failing to find the back of the net. Czech goaltending held firm, keeping the score level at 0-0 after twenty minutes.
The deadlock was broken midway through the second period. At 29:12, Matěj Kubiesa capitalized on a broken play behind the Swiss net. A loose puck was quickly recovered at the blue line and, after a pass rebounded off the outside of the goal, Kubiesa pounced from the top of the crease to make it 1-0 for the Czechs.
Momentum stayed with the Czech side, and they doubled their lead at 36:18. Václav Nestrašil showed excellent speed and timing, beating a defender to the back post where he perfectly redirected a sharp, cross-ice pass from Adam Titlbach. Vladimír Dravecký was also credited with an assist for initiating the play.
Tensions flared in the third period, with several penalties handed out-including a roughing call on both sides and a boarding minor for the Czechs. Despite this, the Czech team remained composed and sealed the win at 54:39. Dravecký once again played a key role, intercepting a clearing attempt at center ice and setting up Nestrašil, who broke in from a tight angle and lifted the puck over the goalie's shoulder into the near top corner for his second goal of the night.
Despite spending significant time on the penalty kill-especially early in the game-the Czech U20 team demonstrated superior discipline, structure, and finishing. The goaltender earned a well-deserved shutout as the team heads into their next matchup with momentum.
