Avangard secured an impressive 4-1 victory against visiting Ak Bars at the G-Drive Arena in Omsk, in front of 11,318 fans. The game, characterized by high intensity and physical play, proved to be a tough challenge for both teams.
Ak Bars struck early, with Nicholas Petan opening the scoring just 19 seconds into the game, finishing a quick setup from Alexander Barabanov and Dmitry Yashkin. Avangard responded swiftly, equalizing in the fifth minute when Cole Cassels and Ilya Reyngardt combined beautifully to set up Alexander Filatyev for a close-range finish.
The second period saw Ak Bars controlling most of the possession and creating several dangerous chances, but Avangard's defense and goaltender Pavel Khomchenko stood firm. A potential go-ahead goal for Avangard by Linden Vey was disallowed after a video review confirmed a high stick before the puck entered the net.
In the third period, Avangard took control. Filatyev scored his second goal of the game, capitalizing on a defensive mishap by Ak Bars to put his team ahead 2-1. Ak Bars coach Anvar Gatiyatulin pulled goaltender Timur Bilyalov with three minutes remaining in search of an equalizer, but Semyon Chistyakov extended Avangard's lead by scoring into an empty net. Igor Martynov sealed the victory with a breakaway goal in the dying seconds, making it 4-1.
