Severstal dominated Torpedo with a 3-0 shutout victory in Nizhny Novgorod. Despite an evenly matched game in terms of shots on goal, Severstal's defense and goaltending, led by Alexander Samoylov, proved impenetrable. Torpedo struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, while Severstal made the most of theirs, securing a convincing road win.
Severstal took an early lead at 03:22 when Danil Aimurzin scored the opening goal, assisted by Kirill Pilipenko. Despite Torpedo's efforts to respond, they were unable to break through Severstal's defense. The visitors played a disciplined period, killing off two penalties and maintaining their 1-0 advantage.
Severstal extended their lead at 31:04 with another goal from Danil Aimurzin, his second of the night, once again assisted by Pilipenko and Timofey Davydov. Torpedo pushed hard, outshooting Severstal 14-12 in the period, but Samoylov stood tall in net, keeping the home team off the scoreboard.
Torpedo intensified their offensive efforts in the final period, but Severstal's defense was resolute, blocking shots and preventing any clear chances. Torpedo pulled their goalie for an extra attacker late in the game, but Alexei Kruchinin sealed the win for Severstal with an empty-net goal at 59:30, assisted by Mark Barberio, making it 3-0.
Severstal's victory was built on strong defensive play and outstanding goaltending from Alexander Samoylov, who recorded a 29-save shutout. Torpedo, despite their best efforts, could not find a way past Severstal's disciplined defense. This win boosts Severstal's standing in the opening of the season.
