In a closely fought battle at the Barys Arena, Neftekhimik edged out Barys with a 2-1 victory in overtime.
The opening period was evenly matched, with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. The period ended scoreless, setting the stage for a tense and tactical game.
Barys broke the deadlock at 36:40 when Wade Allison scored off assists from Will Butcher and Michael McLeod, putting the home team ahead 1-0. Barys continued to apply pressure, but Neftekhimik remained resilient. Despite being on the back foot, Neftekhimik's defense and goaltending kept the game close as they entered the final period just one goal behind.
Neftekhimik ramped up their efforts in the third period, and their persistence paid off at 49:36 when Vladimir Bryukvin scored the equalizer, assisted by Dmitry Sokolov and Ilya Pastukhov. The game became increasingly physical, with both teams trading hits and blocking shots. Barys had a slight edge in possession, but Neftekhimik's defense stood firm, forcing the game into overtime.
The extra period saw Neftekhimik take control early. Jean-Sébastien Dea played the hero for the visitors, scoring the game-winning goal at 64:00 with an assist from Yevgeny Mityakin. Barys had limited chances in overtime, managing only one shot on goal, while Neftekhimik pressed hard with five shots, ultimately sealing the victory.
