Game recap

Sheffield Steelers ended a three-game losing run at the Utilita Arena with a 5-2 win over Coventry Blaze, steadying themselves after last weekend's zero-point return.

The home sided opened the scoring on the powerplay. Excellent passing involving Patrick Walting, Sasha Guimond and then Mitchell Balmas set up the later for a fine one-timer past Mat Robson 8:49 into the game.

Six minutes later, a poor clearance from the Blaze put the puck on the stick of Colton Saucerman who fed Balmas for his and the Steelers' second of the night. Robson did well to stop a Daniel Leavens one-timer before the period was out, while at the other end Matt Greenfield went post to post to deny the Blaze a goal before the break,

Daniel Ciampini made it 3-0 with a one-timer in the slot as the Steelers started period two on the powerplay, but the Blaze weren't out of things. Chase Gresock fed Alessio Luciani at 23:39 to pull one back for the visitors on the powerplay, while less than a minute later Michael Regush took Brandon Alderson's pass and fired into an empty cage to bring the score back to 3-2 at 24:42.

Having got themselves back into things, the Blaze then switched off as a loose puck allowed Brandon Whistle to skate through the defensive line and neatly drag and scoop the puck over Robson to restore the Steelers' two-goal lead just nine seconds later.

Coventry should have been back to within one before the period was done, but an incredible scorpion save off Greenfield's skate kept the Steelers two ahead.

The Blaze had chances in the final period but couldn't find a way past greenfield. With 2:38 to play, Joona Huttula's shot got through a crowd of players and Robson to put the Steelers up by three and kill off the game.
