Game recap

Guildford Flames moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier Sports Elite League with a dominating five-goal, shutout road win in Dundee over the Stars.

Guildford thought they’d taken the lead with 9:07 played, however Brett Ferguson’s effort was washed out after video review as the puck hadn’t fully crossed the goal line. Sam Marklund’s backhand finish 1-on-0 put the Flames ahead with 0.5 seconds left in the opening period.

Ian McNulty and Peter Crinella both had quick-fire chances to double the Flames’ lead early in period two but missed the target on each occasion. Romans Semjonovs came closest to levelling for the Stars with a shot into Taz Burman’s glove just shy of the six-minute mark. On the game’s first powerplay, Jordan Klimek doubled Guildford’s lead with a top-shelf wrist shot timed at 28:14. while 1:57 later Sam Marklund finished off from a McNulty pass to make it 0-3 - Dundee called a time-out to try and steady the ship.

The Flames scored their fourth with their second powerplay goal of the game - Bradley Lalonde's slapshot cannoned back off the pipes, and Daniel Tedesco reacted fasted to hit home the rebound 33 seconds into period three. Ryan Tait's speed created the opportunity for Brett Ferguson to make it five with 6:43 remaining.

The Flames killed off a late Dundee powerplay to take a five-goal win, with Burman recording a 34-shot shutout.
