Stephen Wall stopped all but a single shot, and the Flames scored at least once in each period on their way to their 1st win of the season; a 5-1 home victory over league newcomer Hull Pirates. The win completed a 3 point weekend after a late Kevin Phillips goal in Basingstoke 24 hours earlier ensured a table point with a regulation tie ahead of overtime. Unfortunately, the final outcome was a 3-2 defeat when Bison made the most of the new 3 on 3 extra time rules with a Kurt Reynolds winner just under 2 minutes into the tiebreaking period.
