The defender of Barys Nur-Sultan and the national team of Kazakhstan Darren Dietz for the second year in a row was recognized as the best hockey player in the country.
Even though later than usual, the directorate of the "Best Hockey Player of Kazakhstan" competition summed up the results of the traditional poll among journalists covering hockey topics that were asked to name the top three players from the past season.
For the second year in a row, Darren Dietz, a 27-year-old native of Medicine Hat, Canada, who took Kazakhstan citizenship last year, was elected as the best player. According to the poll, eight observers put the defender in first place, seven in second and another one in third.This earned a total of 39 points.
The second place in the competition was taken by goalkeeper Eddie Pasquale, moved from Barys to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the summer. He has 5 first, 3 second and 7 third places which gave 28 points in total.
Only one point was given to him by the third prize-winner of the competition, Nikita Mikhailis - he has 6 first, 4 second and 1 third places
In the top five are also Barys veteran Roman Starchenko (10 points) and striker Evgeny Rymarev, who played a good season in Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk (8 points).
