Saturday saw Cardiff Devils move back level on points with leaders Nottingham with a convincing 6-2 home victory over Sheffield Steelers.

 
 
 
 

Mark Richardson started the scoring off with his second goal of the season.

The key part of the game came in a crazy minute-and-half spell in the second period where the hosts netted three times, including two for Gui Doucet.

This was a return encounter after Sheffield Steelers ran out victors on Wednesday night 2-1.

Edinburgh Capitalsbounced back from Friday night’s defeat to beat Elite League leaders Nottingham Panthers5-3 in Murrayfield.

The Capitals scored three times in the second period to lead 3-0, including David Rutherford netting his 11th goal of the season.

Two goals in 27 seconds closed the gap for the Panthers, but Trevor Gerling’s breakaway goal moments later turned out to be crucial.

Andy Bohmbach scored short-handed to set up a tense finish, but Ryan Hayes bagged his 22nd goal of the season – into an empty net – to end Nottingham’s run of six successive wins.

Braehead Clancame from 4-1 down to beatManchester Storm6-4 in Altrincham.

Luke Salazar’s 12th goal of the season put Storm into the lead after only 76 seconds.

The hosts were 4-1 up at the midway point of the first period but Braehead, led by Alex Leavitt’s hat-trick, turned the game around in dramatic fashion.

In Challenge Cup Group A,Belfast Giantswon 3-0 at Fife Flyers.

Chris Higgins scored on his first game back from injury to put the visitors in front.

Further goals from Adam Keefe and Darryl Lloyd secured the win.

Dundee Starsscored late to beatCardiff Devils5-4 in a thrilling game.

Bobby Chaumont netted twice to take his tally for the season to double figures to put the hosts in control and 4-2 up.

Devils hit back, including Gui Doucet’s second of the night and 17th goal of the season, before Riley Wetmore’s game-winner at 54:34.

In the Elite League,Manchester Stormpicked up a vital 5-3 victory at the home of fellow strugglersCoventry Blaze. 

Two goals 43 seconds apart in the first period from Paul Phillips and Vinnie Scarsella set the visitors on their way.

Blaze just about stayed in touch but Scarsella’s second of the night turned out to be the game-winner.

Sheffield Steelers lost for the second successive night as they were beaten 2-1 byBraehead Clanat Ice Sheffield.

Brendan Brooks put Clan ahead short-handed in the second period and Bari McKenzie made it 2-0 in the third session.

Jace Coyle closed the gap with a little under three minutes remaining, but Clan held on to claim the win.

(This proved to be a catalyst for the signing of Guilliaume Desbiens to replace Mike Duco.)

Belfast Giantsfinished top of Challenge Cup Group A with a 3-2 victory overFife Flyers.

Mike Radja and Craig Peacock put the hosts into a 2-0 lead, before Flyers hit back through Nicholas Rioux and Justin Fox.

Radja’s 12th goal of the season with a touch over seven minutes remaining secured Belfast the two points.

The round robin stage of the Challenge Cup is now complete.
