AIK! The sensation is a fact

AIK! The sensation is a fact

AIK is the first team to reach the semi finals in Sweden when last year's champion HV71 is eliminated in four straight games.

It is one of the biggest sensations ever in Swedish ice hockey. For the first time in 16 years the winner of the regular season is eliminated in the quarter finals, in four straight games, by AIK who noone expected to even reach the playoff.

The main key to AIK success is the brilliant goaltending by Victor Fasth but also the hard work and heart shown by all the skaters. HV71 on the other hand a huge disapointment not being able to win a single game and only scoring four goals in the playoffs after winning the regular season.

In today's game, HV 71 had the momentum in the second period, took the lead by Per Ledin and was looking to extend their lead on a four minute power play. But instead AIK went on a counter attack and with an easy shot Johannes Salmonsson managed to beat Daniel Larsson for the equalizer with only 92 seconds left to play of the second period.

And in the third AIK scored twice to take the lead 3-1, Christian Sandberg made it 2-1 before Daniel Bång scored the third goal with a great individual effort. After that HV 71 was a beaten team. They pulled the goalie with over four minutes left but were never close to a goal and instead Daniel Rudslätt made it 4-1 on the empty net.
