The Norwegian top club Lørenskog IK is punished hard for not applying for license in time. They will the start the 2013/2014 GET ligaen season with a deduction of 20 points.
The Norwegian Ice Hockey Association decided to give Lørenskog the hardest possible penalty for not following the rules for licenses. The club was over three months late with their application something that the Norwegian Association felt was very arrogant by the club. Lørenskog could have been thrown out of the league but in a small hockey country all the top clubs are needed in the top league and thus the association decided to go with the hardest possible penalty besides throwing them out of the league.
"In my 16 years as president I never experienced such arrogance. It's extreme.", the president of the Norwegian Association Ole-Jacob Libæk said.
Besides starting the next season on minus 20 points the club is also fined 30,000 NOK. Lørenskog finished in third place with 89 points last season and with twenty point deduction would have put them in seventh place instead. So despite the hard penalty Lørenskog have a chance of reaching the playoffs also next season.
