WJC: Exciting finish of group A

With the overtime win against Switzerland Czech Republic made sure the finish of Group A will be really interesting. Finland will miss the playoff round if they lose to Sweden later today. But if Finland wins, Finland, Sweden and Czech Republic all will finish on 8 points and goal difference will decide places 1-3.

Switzerland has had an impressive tournament getting to overtime against all three higher ranked teams, but it may still not be enough to get to the quarter final if Finland gets a point against Sweden.

Czech Republic had a 2-goal lead after two periods but Switzerland was allowed to get back to 3-3 and take the game to overtime. Tomas Hertl got the overtime winner for the Czechs.

Matej Beran made it 1-0 for the Czechs at 03:46 but the Swiss team tied it ten minutes later on a goal by Christian Marti.

Czech Republic won the second period 2-0 to run off to a 3-1 lead. Michal Svihalek and Tomas Hyka got the goals.

With 8:15 remaining Christoph Bertschy scored the second Swiss goal on the power play. Dario Simion tied it two minutes before the end, also with a power play goal.
