Baptiste Amar the hero when Grenoble wins their third cup title.
Just as he did in 2009 final, team captain Baptiste Amar, who played
in Rögle last season, scored the game winning goal in OT against
Briançon after a thrilling final game played in Meribel (4-3 OT).
Earlier in the game, Briançon Canadian import Marc-André Bernier and
Grenoble young Team France member Nicolas Arrossamena responded to
eachother with 2 goals each.
This is the third title for Grenoble in this competition created in
season 2006-07 (2007, 2009 and 2011). Rouen won the two other titles
awarded (2008 and 2010) but was upset in semi-final by Briançon after
losing the first leg 6-1. Grenoble advanced to the final with a
convincing second leg win in the semi-finals against Angers (4-1) which
cancelled the loss in the first one (3-2). For Briançon, this is the
third OT loss in the final game (2008, 2009 and 2011).
On a side note, the French U20 national team played for the first
time in the first round of this competition. A good experience for the
U20 team who won the WJC Division II round in Estonia, earning a spot
back to the Division I one year after being relegated.
