11 games were played on Wednesday in KHL. Latvian side Dinamo Riga with a huge surprise in St. Petersburg.
Avangard Omsk strengthened their position on top of Chernyshyov Division by defeating their division neighbours Barys Astana away with the score of 5-3. The hosts from Kazakhstan went twice in front in the first period for a 2-1 but in the middle period Avangard managed to turn the result around. After Barys came back to a one-goal difference in the last 20 minutes, an empty-netter had to bring the decision for Omsk.
In Magnitogorsk local Metallurg beat Severstal Cherepovets in an quite even match - at least in the first two periods - with 5-2. Evgeny Malkin didn't score a goal himself but gave three assists. Magnitka's Enver Lisin was the only player to score twice.
It was very hard work and Traktor Chelyabinsk was far less dominating than expected but in the end they won through goals by Maxim Yakutsenya and Jan Bulis - empty netter with 13 seconds left in regulation - they beat Belarussian side Dinamo Minsk with 2-0 and stay on top of Tarasov Division due to the better goal difference towards Metallurg Magntiogorsk. Andrei Mezin, Traktor's goalie from Belarus, had a 27 save shutout against his fellow countrymen.
Vityaz Chekhov keeps winning away games as if it was the easiest thing in the world. Today they already earned their 8th win on the road (while they only won twice at home). Home side Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg was three times behind before they changed the result in their favour in the last period through a double within less than one minute through Fyodor Malykhin and Branislav Mezei but still Vityaz was not beaten. Avto player Alexei Simakov saw a late two-minute penalty for hooking after which Vityaz took a timeout and pulled out their goalie. With 6 on 4 players on the ice Pavel Chernov made it 4-4 with 29 seconds left to play and extended the game into overtime. In the last minute of this one Vladimir Malevich was sent off with a game misconduct penalty for a check against the head. In the shootout Josh Hennessy and Artemy Panarin won the extra point for Chekhov.
Favourites Salavat Yulayev Ufa made their homework and beat Atlant Moscow Oblast at home 5-3. Still the game was open till the end before Alexander Stepanov decided the match at 59:31 with a shot into the empty net. Due to this win Ufa improved to the third spot in their division.
Despite a lot of attacking ice hockey between Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk and Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod the fans had to wait until the second period before Alex Semin brought the guests in front. Still youngster Nail Yakupov was able to give his team the lead before the second intermission by scoring one goal himself and assisting to the strike of Alexander Seluyanov. At the begin of the third period Vladimir Gorbunov tied the match for Torpedo but at 51:30 Andrei Subbotin scored the game winner for the hosts. In the last minute of ply Nail Yakupov even added another one for Neftekhimik to make it 4-2.
For CSKA Moscow it looked like a perfect day after two periods against Metallurg Novokuznetsk. The hosts were in front 3-0 through goals by Janis Sprukts, Mikhail Grabovsky and Alexander Radulov but with the start of the third period they received a horrible Halloween present by Metallurg. Within 8 minutes Stanislav Romanov, Alexander Mereskin and Dmitry Chernykh tied the match before Randy Robitaille even scored the late game winner for Novokuznetsk at 58:49. When CSKA had to risk everything Dmitry Kagarlitsky's empty netter let no doubts arise about the winner.
IIn the top game of the day Lokomotiv Yaroslavl was the weaker team in the last period but Artyom Anisimov won the game for them at 59:00. Before Vitaly Vishnevsky (Lokomotiv) and Janne Pesonen (Ak Bars) had scored in the second period. Now Loko has a five-point advantage towards CSKA Moscow in Tarasov Division.
Ukrainian team Donbass Donetsk had a good day away against current Gagarin Cup holders Dynamo Moscow but couldn't take points with them. In an extremly effective first period Konstantin Kasyanchuk and Konstantin Volkov were succesful with two of only four shots on goal. At the begin of the second period again Volkov made it 3-0. Imports Peter Podhradsky and Fredrik Pettersson cut the Dynamo lead to just one but at 51:43 Alexei Tsvetkov decided the match with the 4-2.
Another late minute win gave Dinamo Riga a huge surprise win in St. Petersburg against hosts SKA. After the first period Riga was in front with a 3-1 lead but Kevin Dallman and Vladimir Tarasenko brought SKA back into the game. With only 8 seconds left in regulation Miks Indrasis with his second of the day won the game for the Latvians who still are last in Bobrov Division.
Lev Prague still can win. After only one win in the last eleven (!!!) matches, they beat Russian side Amur Khabarovsk at home. For Amur it was the second consecutive loss in their long, long travel to Western Europe. Already at 02:58 did Erik Christensen score the lead for the Lions but a double through Alexander Osipov and Mika Pyorala at the end of the period made all confidence go away from Lev. In the middle period Tomas Surovy scored twice to path the way for the home win. Ondrej Nemec and Juraj Mikus (empty net) scored another two for the team's confidence.
