Bavaria seems to be a a dangerous place for Cologne as the league leaders suffered both losses there. Daniel Brière with a hat trick in the Berlin win.
40 years ago today Kölner Haie played their first ever league game. Their anniversary was ruined today by their opponent ERC Ingolstadt. Despite leading twice in the first period through Alexander Weiß and Philip Gogulla, Cologne had to see how Ingolstadt made it 3-2 after the first 20 minutes. After just 17 seconds of the middle period the hosts extended the lead to two before Rok Ticar brought the guests back into the match. When Cologne had to risk everything the Bavarians made it 6-3.
Today was a special meeting for the Goc brothers. Sascha for Hannover against Marcel and Nikolai for Mannheim met today and all earned points. First Frank Mauer and Mirko Höfflin - with assists by Nikolai Goc and lockout reinforcement Dennis Seidenberg - made it 0-2 for Mannheim before Hannover turned the match around completely, also with the help of a goal and an assist by Sascha Goc. Late at 55:13 the third of the brother trio, Marcel Goc, saved the day for the favorites from Mannheim and let the game extend to overtime. This one stayed goalless before Yannic Lehoux won the extra point for the guests in the shootout.
With a lot of energy Augsburg won their away game against Düsseldorfer EG with a score of 6-4. Early in the first period the Bavarians earned a three-goal lead before Düsseldorf managed to tie the result until 30:54. When Peter MacArthur and Chad Bassen added another two for the guests the game seemed pretty over but Justin Bostrom brought the home side back into fighting distance at 46:45. With 50 seconds left on the clock Mario Valery-Trabbuco earned an empty-netter with his second of the day. Now Augsburg is third with the same amout of points as Mannheim and just three points behind Cologne with one game less played.
Eisbären Berlin have struggled so far but still they are already fifth in the league table after defeating bottom club Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg with a score of 6-2. This was also made possible due to a stellar performance by lockout star forward Daniel Brière who earned four points today, including a hat trick. The other lockout star for Berlin, Claude Giroux, also did a great job and had three assists.
The fifth team that of the top group that won today was Nürnberg. The Ice Tigers grabbed all three points in Krefeld after a late third-period comeback with goals by Eric Choinard and Steven Reinprecht.
Second consecutive home win for the Straubing Tigers after defeating the Hamburg Freezers 3-1. In the first two periods Tyler Beechey and Grant Lewis lay the foundation of the success. Though Jerome Flaake cut the lead to just one in the third period, it was again Tyler Beechey who decided the match for Straubing with his second of the day in a 5 on 3 power play.
Red Bull München today rounded up a 6-point weekend by winning 2-1 against the Iserlohn Roosters. After Robert Hock opened the score for the guests late in the second period, the shock didn't last so long as Martin Hinterstocker scored the equalizer not even two minutes later. In the end Ulrich Maurer won the match for München at 48:03 in a power play situation.
