All but one KHL game on Wednesday ended with a close result. Only Khabarovsk used its home advantage for a clear win.
Only once could Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg score in Khabarovsk against local side Amur when Alexei Simakov cut the two-goal lead of Amur through Alexander Yunkov and Evgeny Korotkov at the end of the middle period. Not even a minute after this sign of hope Jakub Petruzalek scored the 3-1 for the home team. When the guests tried it with pulling out their goalie Dmitry Shitkov punished that with an empty netter for Amur at 59:31. But the game was not over yet - with 11 seconds left on the clock Mika Pyorala made it even 5-1.
There is always a lot of action when it comes to the rivalry of Salavat Yulayev Ufa and Ak Bars Kazan. Today the better end was with the guests who decided the match in shootout. In regular time the game was dominated by the Fins as Jarkko Immonen and Niko Kapanen twice tied the Ufa lead through fellow Finnish import Antti Pihlström and Igor Mursatov. In the shootout Evgeny Medvedev scored the game-winner for Kazan in the fourth round - he was the only one to transform his penalty shot.
A strong performance by Yugra Chanty-Mansiysk - penultimate in Kharlamov Division - earned them three points in their away match against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl - first in Tarasov Division. Linus Videll and Dmitri Altaryov gained a two-goal lead for Yugra after 40 minutes before Alexei Kalyuzhny cut the lead at 43:28. Ten minutes later Stanislav Bocharov earned the game-winner for Yugra and Viktor Kozlov could only score the 2-3 for Loko.
The 5,500 fans in Nizhny Novgorod saw no goals in the first period but with the start of period number two the action began. First the guests Barys Astana earned a 2-0 lead before four consecutive goals until 46:14 gave the advantage to home side Torpedo. Two goals in the second period by Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev brought Barys back into the match before Ruslan Zainullin made it 5-4 for Torpedo at 56:44. Now Torpedo is just two points behind the second of their division.
Two teams that had a slightly negative start met today in Moscow. Especially for a team like Spartak with such an history and that fights for every spectator the situation isn't acceptable. Although they went in front through Andrei Shefer and Anatoly Nikontsev they couldn't avoid the Vityaz equalizer. Twice scored Vladimir Malevich in the third period to get the match into overtime. When it came to the shootout the scoring was relatively high. 7 of the 10 shooters were succesful and Artemy Panarin with his second shootout goal of the match gained the extra point for Vityaz. Both teams by now have collected 19 points in 15 games.
A point won or a point lost?! That's the question for Avangard Omsk today. Against Atlant Moscow Oblast they were three times in front but Igor Ignatushkin at 59:03 saved the day for the home side Atlant. Sergei Kostitsyn ended the following overtime already after 39 seconds to get the extra point to Avangard.
