HockeyAllsvenskan starts today
12 Sep 2012 | Henrik Lundqvist
Today is the start of HockeyAllsvenskan, the Swedish second league. Djurgårdens IF is out of the highest Swedish league for the first time since 1976
Today starts HockeyAllsvenskan with six games. The Swedish second league consists of 14 teams. Favorites are Djurgården, who was relegated from Elitserien last season, and Leksand. Örebro who won the regular season last season is also an outsider.
Other expected top teams are Södertälje, Malmö, Västerås and Bofors. The remaining teams are Mora, Oskarshamn, Almtuna, Tingsryd, Karlskrona (promoted), Troja/Ljungby and Asplöven (promoted).
At first HockeyAllsvenskan announced that they (like Elitserien) wouldn't allow any NHL players on short term contracts in case of a lock-out, but then they changed mind yesterday and opens for NHL players. Patrik Berglund, Mikael Backlund and Oliver Ekman Larsson are a few of the current NHL players that earlier have represented teams now playing in HockeyAllsvenskan.
